Tambria Wilson, a student at Southeast Missouri State University, is finishing her student teaching and making plans to become an educator in the Cape Girardeau School District. Tambria was excited to learn about the Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority’s (CGCTA) collaboration with the United Way to provide rides to those trying to meet their goals and maintain employment. For her, using CGCTA’s transit service has allowed her to meet her professional obligations and not worry so much about how she would get to class or work.
Brent Palisch, a CGCTA rider for more than 12 years, is able to maintain employment thanks to the Cape County Board for Disabilities program which allows him to ride transit for free, ensuring he never misses a day of work.
Leandrea Brown saw firsthand the importance of public transit when she would ride the bus with her mother. She fondly remembers the drivers, an influence that eventually led to her seeking employment with CGCTA due to her ability to save money thanks to the employee benefit of free transit. Today, Leandrea is a proud vehicle owner who better understands the importance of transportation options due to her own lived experience.
Whether it’s for school, work, or other reasons, the great majority of people need to leave their home and travel each week. Public transit empowers people to seek education, employment, and other opportunities, and CGCTA can be proud of their role in their rider’s lives.
