The responsibilities of public transit riders are varied. Some are employed, some are caregivers, and some serve their communities in a variety of different ways. For Rose Park, Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority (CGCTA) transit service and the drivers that pick her up ensure she is able to care for her nephew and bring him home after his Early Childhood Program.
Julie G. cites the professionalism, kindness, and respect of the CGCTA transit service drivers she relies on to get from point A to point B as allowing her the flexibility and freedom she needs in her daily life.
Paul Aydelott, another CGCTA rider, says of the CGCTA drivers, “CGCTA has given me my life back, and with it, my independence. The drivers treat me with empathy and respect—I truly feel like they’re part of my family.”
In some situations, a transit operator might be the only social interaction a public transit rider might experience in a day. By treating riders with empathy and respect, they restore riders’ dignity and ensure they remain connected to the larger community.
