2025 Public Transportation Ballot Measures

 

2025 has seen a variety of ballot measures related to public transportation with some already having been voted on and some yet to be voted on in November. The American Public Transportation Association’s Center for Transportation Excellence tracks ballot measures annually and more can be seen on their website here. A summary of each ballot measure is included below.

August 2025 Ballot Measures

Kalkaska County, Michigan

  • Voters passed a 5-year millage for the continued operation and maintenance of the Kalkaska Public Transit Authority.

Ludington and Scottville, Michigan

  • Voters renewed a public transportation millage of up to $1.975 million over five years.

October 2025 Ballot Measure

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

  • Voters passed a $2.7 billion bond program that includes funding for new transit operations and maintenance headquarters facility in addition to modernizing the existing transit fleet.

November 2025 Ballot Measures

Ellensburg, Washington

  • Voters will decide on a 0.2% sales tax that would fund operation, maintenance, or capital needs of local public transit systems.

Routt County, City of Craig, Town of Oak Creek, Town of Hayden, Town of Yampa, City of Steamboat Springs, Colorado

  • Voters will decide on the formation of the Yampa Valley Regional Transportation Authority.

Telluride, Colorado

  • Voters will decide on a 5% excise tax on Telluride Ski Resort lift ticket purchases, the revenue which would be dedicated to the local public transit gondola system for operations, maintenance, and capital improvements.

Mecklenburg, North Carolina

  • Voters will decide on a transit sales tax (a 1 cent increase in current sales tax) that is expected to raise $20 billion over 30 years. The funds would be split between roads, rail transit, bus transit, and micro transit services.

Kalamazoo County, Michigan

  • Voters will decide on a tax levy for public transportation which is expected to raise $7,800,000 in its first year.

Delta Township, Michigan

  • Voters will decide whether or not to continue funding local bus service by approving a .75 mill tax to fund operations. If the millage fails, local service would be eliminated.

Mountain Village, Colorado

  • Voters will decide on a 5% excise tax on lift tickets between November and April to fund gondola service between Mountain Village and Telluride.
