Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority Expands Services Through New Partnership with Southeast Missouri State University

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority (CGCTA) is proud to announce a new partnership with Southeast Missouri State University that will significantly expand transportation access for students and enhance the overall campus transit experience.

Effective at the start of the Fall 2025 academic semester, CGCTA will officially take over campus shuttle operations, building on its long-standing commitment to providing reliable, accessible public transportation in the region.

“This agreement is a testament to the hard work of both CGCTA and SEMO University employees, who have continually sought innovative ways to serve the community more effectively. This is a major step forward in connecting our community,” said Ginny Smith, Executive Director of CGCTA. “CGCTA will continue working to ensure a smooth transition that preserves current shuttle routes while expanding service to key destinations.”

The transition is expected to benefit both students and the University. While all existing campus shuttle routes will remain in place, the expanded service footprint will offer students greater mobility and improved access to essential off-campus resources, including shopping centers, medical facilities, and recreational areas.

By assuming operational responsibility, CGCTA will also help Southeast Missouri State University reduce administrative burdens and operational costs associated with the shuttle program. The resulting savings will allow the University to redirect funding—previously used to subsidize the WINGS program—toward other student-focused initiatives.

“This is more than a transportation upgrade—it’s an investment in the student experience and the long-term efficiency of campus operations,” said Dr. Rich Flotron, Director of Public Safety at Southeast Missouri State University. “Partnering with CGCTA allows us to deliver a more comprehensive and efficient transit solution for our university community.”

CGCTA looks forward to a successful rollout in Fall 2025 and to continuing its mission of connecting people, places, and opportunities throughout Cape Girardeau County.
