Telling the Story of 45 Years of Missouri Transit

In 2026, the Missouri Public Transit Association (MPTA) is excited to celebrate its 45th anniversary as the representative of the collective voice for public transit across Missouri. For over four decades, MPTA has worked alongside transit providers, riders, advocates, and community leaders and partners to strengthen public transit and improve mobility for Missourians in rural and urban communities.

Since its founding in 1981, MPTA has witnessed tremendous growth in Missouri’s public transit industry. From the introduction of new vehicles and technologies to expanded services, creative mobility solutions and innovative partnerships, transit providers across the state have continually evolved to meet the changing needs of the people they serve. Behind each milestone are dedicated professionals working tirelessly to connect residents with jobs, healthcare, education, shopping, and countless other opportunities.

As we celebrate this anniversary at the upcoming 2026 Missouri Transit Conference, we want to showcase the history of Missouri public transit and we need your help. MPTA is inviting transit providers from across the state to submit photos that capture the story of their systems through the years. Whether it’s a historic vehicle from decades past, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, facility construction, a special event, employee recognition celebrations or a side-by-side comparison of how your system has evolved, we want to see it. Providers are invited to send historic images to Travis Wood, MPTA Senior Director, via email at twood@MOpublictransit.org.
