Amtrak Missouri River Runner to Increase Capacity During World Cup Matches

Capacity will increase by 25% in anticipation of an increase in demand between June and July

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that Amtrak will add railcars to increase capacity across Missouri during the World Cup matches set to take place in Kansas City this summer. The Missouri River Runner, which travels roundtrip between St. Louis and Kansas City twice per day, will have additional passenger cars added to each trip, increasing the capacity by 25%. The service expansion is set to begin on June 15 and will cease on July 12 after the World Cup matches are over.

In a statement released on April 29, MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger said, “Missouri is proud to welcome visitors from around the world during these World Cup matches, and these additional train cars are key to providing them multimodal options around our state. We’re thankful to our partners at Amtrak, Illinois and Michigan to help provide this convenient service to our residents and guests during such a monumental event.”
