MoDOT Hosts Public Meeting on Intercity Bus Study

On February 9, MoDOT and WSP held a public meeting to provide information on and receive feedback from participants on the Intercity Bus Study which is currently ongoing in the state of Missouri. The meeting opened with a definition of intercity bus service which is as follows: “Regularly scheduled bus service for the general public that operates with stops in rural areas over fixed routes connecting two or more urbanized areas not in close proximity, has the capacity for transporting baggage carried by passengers, and makes meaningful connections with scheduled intercity bus service to more distant points, if such service is available.”

Participants on the call made a variety of suggestions to the study team, including a call to prioritize service to major cities like Kansas City, Jefferson City, Columbia, and St. Louis. Concern about the importance of connection to other modes of transportation including local transit systems, Amtrak, etc., was also touched upon by attendees. Going forward, the project team plans to analyze the survey results as well as public comments for inclusion in the report. The team will proceed with an evaluation of potential/existing ICB services and an evaluation of models for state ICB program in other parts of the country. The team expects to release the final report in August 2026.

The stakeholder/public survey remains open through February 13 here.
