Unified Opposition Builds Against Proposed Transit Funding Cuts

Gov. Kehoe is proposing an additional $5 million cut to public transit in his FY27 budget recommendations. If adopted, state transit funding will have been reduced by 85% since he took office, creating a dire situation with very real and tangible consequences for Missourians. For countless residents, public transit is the only reliable way to reach essential destinations. Service cuts—or total service cessation—will disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, threatening their ability to access jobs, dialysis appointments, critical healthcare services, necessary medications, and groceries.

In response, Citizens for Modern Transit and the Missouri Public Transit Association reached out to the Governor, the Missouri House Budget Committee, the Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee and select legislators with a letter cosigned by 32 businesses and organizations statewide.
