MoDOT Releases RFP for Intercity Bus Service Study

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has issued a request for proposals to study and develop new or improved intercity bus service routes, especially in rural and underserved areas in Missouri. MoDOT notes that intercity bus service has declined in the past decade, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning some rural areas have no service whatsoever. MoDOT has identified potential areas of need including the corridor between Columbia and Jefferson City, a southeast corridor following I-55, and a northwest corridor with service to Hannibal.

With Greyhound closing and relocating some stations, Missouri and other states will need to look at ways to fill the gaps for these communities. The proposed study which MoDOT is seeking a vendor for will be asked to identify those gaps and develop funding solutions for expanding intercity bus service.
