On May 30, 2025, President Donald Trump released his Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Budget request. President Trump requests $21.2 billion for public transit in FY 2026, a $310 million (1.5 percent) increase from the FY 2025 enacted level. The request is $1.0 billion less than the FY 2026 IIJA authorized levels.
The Budget request provides $3.8 billion for Capital Investment Grants (CIG) in FY 2026. In addition to funding projects with existing Full Funding Grant Agreements, the Budget proposes funding for 15 CIG projects in 11 States.
