Ridership continues to grow in Lee’s Summit with new partnership between OATS and KCATA

oats, incIn the spring of 2017 OATS, Inc. partnered with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to manage operation of the Lee’s
Summit daily transit service. Seven months later the service is still growing. OATS began providing transportation for the city of Lee’s Summit residents on April 1, 2017 and all indications show the new service to be a success.

The three-way partnership between the City of Lee’s Summit, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and OATS enabled the three agencies to pool resources and improve service provision. The City of Lee’s Summit funds the curb-to-curb bus service to its citizens. “By providing curb-to-curb service we are able to serve so many more people in less time for Lee’s Summit” said Sara Davis, Regional Director. Door-to-door service is still available upon request to those who need it.
The City of Lee’s Summit has a population of 96,000. Ten drivers and six vehicles are designated to the Lee’s Summit operations. In April, OATS provided 10,100 miles of service in one month, and by October it was up to 15,500 miles of service per month. That shows a significant increase in service in just seven months. This demand-transit service is available to anyone regardless of age or ability. OATS requires at least 24 hours advance reservation (call 816-380-7433). The bus fare is currently $1.50 per trip. OATS operates this service for any purpose between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., each week Monday through Friday to and from any location in the city limits and Truman Medical Center Lakewood located just outside the city limit along Lee’s Summ
