Cape bus still rolling in 2018

Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority will keep their fixed-route bus service rolling in 2018 thanks to funding from the Cape Girardeau City Council.

The fixed-route bus line provides more than 7,000 rides each month and roughly 80,000 rides each year. Mayor Harry Regdiger reports that the route has seen ridership grow over the years since it first began service 11 years ago.

Riders are charged a nominal fee to ride the bus, which helps fund the service, however, most of the service is funded through federal funds. The city’s contribution will help fund about one third of the annual expense of the bus service.
