Gas prices keep going up, with no real end in sight, and people still need to get to the grocery store and doctor appointments. Springfield City Utilities says in March ridership on its buses rose five-percent, and just last month that number was up seven-percent.
Its about the same as what happened when gas hit three-dollars 87-cents a gallon in 2008, and transit director Carol Cruise says sometimes overcrowding is an issue in the afternoons, so if that happens they have extra buses on stand-by where they can put additional buses into service.
