Proposed Service Expansion in Joplin Prompts Public Engagement

Recent reporting from KOAM News Now in Joplin, MO, touches on the public engagement currently underway in Joplin regarding a proposed expansion of the Joplin Sunshine Trolley.

The City of Joplin is looking ahead to the future of transit and inviting community members to play a role in determining what comes next. As the city explores potential expansion opportunities, residents are being asked to provide input on possible new routes and stop locations that could improve connectivity and better serve the community.

Public feedback can play an important role in helping transit systems identify where service is needed most. By engaging residents in the planning process, Joplin has an opportunity to better understand travel patterns, key destinations and mobility needs while developing potential improvements that reflect the priorities of the people who live, work and travel throughout the city. While Joplin’s public meetings have taken place, those interested in providing comment on the proposed service change may reach out to Gina Thompson, Transportation Coordinator, via email at: gthompso@joplinmo.org. Public comments will be accepted through September 8, 2026.
