The Bolivar Cruiser’s last day of operation is Tuesday, May 31, according to Scott Kosky, southwest region director of OATS.

The public transportation system that operated on a regular, fixed route throughout the city began in May 2010 through a Federal Transit Administration grant administered by the Missouri Department of Transportation. That grant paid for about 75 percent of the system’s operational expenses with about $35,000 a year required in local matching funds.

The Bolivar Transit Coalition and other supporters of the bus system have been unable to secure enough funding to keep the system operational.

The bus will not operate Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

OATS continues to operate a bus that requires riders to call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride. Call 326-5570.
