In Missouri, state transit assistance funding has been reduced by 64% since Governor Kehoe took office in January 2025. Transit providers across Missouri have worked diligently to identify local matching funds through sales taxes, local government partnerships, private contracts, and other revenue sources. However, insufficient state investment has remained one of the most significant barriers to maximizing available federal funding. Continued state support is essential to ensuring Missouri can fully leverage federal transit investments and maintain safe, reliable, and accessible public transportation services throughout the state.
As the MPTA looks ahead to the 2027 Missouri Legislative Session, we invite transit providers, transit industry employees, riders, and advocates to join us on December 9, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., for a Transit Advocacy Workshop on best practices in relation to sharing your transit story with legislators during the 2027 Missouri Legislative Session.
Workshop speakers will include Scott Bogren, Executive Director of Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA), and Michael Winter of Scherr Winter, LLC. Attendees will learn how to best share their transit story at the local, state, and national level to help build support for Missouri transit over the course of the next year. The MPTA will also share information on upcoming opportunities to visit the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City alongside the MPTA and other transit riders and advocates to meet directly with legislators on transit funding.
