In May of 2025, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) celebrated the groundbreaking of a new Transit-Oriented Community Development (TOCD) facility set to bring affordable housing to the 18th and Vine Historic District in Kansas City.
Initially known as Jazz District III, KCATA renamed the project “The Parker” in honor of jazz legend Charlie “Yardbird” Parker and the many musicians and athletes that walked the surrounding area of 18th and Vine.
The project, expected to cost approximately $24 milllion, will include 48 multi-family housing units in two buildings set above commercial and retail space, including a business center being created in partnership with local organization Generating Income For Tomorrow.
