Celebrate Public Transit with Communities in Motion Week

City Utilities in Springfield will be participating in Communities in Motion week, a week-long celebration of alternative transportation, June 18 – 22.

Scheduled events during Communities in Motion Week include:

  • Monday, June 18: Customer Appreciation Day. Enjoy Kristy Kreme Doughnuts and a cup of coffee at the Transit Center, located at Main and College, from 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., while supplies last.
  • Tuesday, June 19: “Take a Ride” with KKLH’s Mike the Intern as he broadcasts live on a randomly-selected route from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 20: Driver Appreciation Day. Join us in thanking our drivers who serve our community.
  • Thursday, June 21: “Dump the Pump Day” Leave your car at home and ride The Bus for FREE.

o Pop-Up Farmers Market and Food Trucks at Transit Center: Get fresh farm raised produce from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Transit Center during this collaboration event with Community Partnership of the Ozarks and the Food Collaborative.

o Bring a friend and enjoy lunch from some of Springfield’s  amazing food trucks. Firelight Pizza Company and Mad Jackie’s Street Catering will be serving starting at 11:30.

  • Friday, June 22: Springfield Cardinals Spirit Day – Show your team spirit by wearing Cardinals gear and ride The Bus for free. You might even get free tickets to a Springfield Cardinals game!

Across the country, public transportation is seeing an increase in ridership numbers. In 2017, CU Transit Services provided 1.3 million rides, and CU buses operated over 87,000 hours.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Communities in Motion Week is observed in communities across the United States to emphasize how communities benefit from public transportation.
