As a part of the Missouri Public Transit Association’s efforts to promote our members and the services they provide in MO, we launched a new series, MEET MPTA. This week we are highlighting the services provided by Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority.
The Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority’s mission is to provide safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective transit services to all residents and visitors of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. They service the cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri, as well as several smaller towns within the county.
Their services include a fixed bus route within the city of Cape Girardeau with stops in both residential and commercial areas, such as: hospitals, doctors, parks, schools and shopping centers. They also provide demand response (taxi) service, which operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is available to the more than 55,000 residents of the county.
For over 10 years, Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority have continued to provide quality transit services to the citizens of Cape Girardeau County and consistently grows ridership every year. They currently employ approx. 70 drivers and provide almost 200,000 rides annually. Many of these are to senior residents and are medical based transportation.
