That’s what Americans polled by the Mineta Transportation Institute think. Ian report entitled "What do Americans Think About Federal Tax Options to Support Public Transit, Highways, and Local Streets and Roads?" they found that support for a 10-cent gas tax hike is only 23 percent, but if that new revenue is dedicated to road maintenance, support grows to 67 percent. In addition, two-thirds of respondents support spending gas tax revenues on transit.
