The Metro To Serve Airport Seven Days A Week

(Kansas City, Mo. – March 28, 2013) Beginning March 31, The Metro’s 129-Boardwalk/KCI will offer service between downtown Kansas City, Mo., and all KCI Airport terminals seven days a week. The route previously only offered service during the weekdays, while a MetroFlex route allowed customers to call and schedule trips at some other times.

“This is a great development for travelers, as well as those who work at the airport,” said Director of Planning Danny O’Connor. “KCATA has received an overwhelming positive response about this change. Travelers are excited about the alternative to a cab ride or paying for parking, and people who work at the airport are glad to have a reliable, money-saving option seven days a week.”

On weekdays, 129 trips travel from the 10th & Main MetroCenter to the airport hourly, with additional trips from downtown ending at Boardwalk Square MetroCenter. All weekend trips on route 129 serve KCI. The 229-Tiffany Springs MetroFlex is being replaced by regularly scheduled fixed-route service on 129, 230 and 231.

More Northland Service

Another improvement is the addition of Shoal Creek Parkway to the Liberty Express. The route, renamed the 34X-Shoal Creek/Liberty Express, adds reverse commute trips. Customers can travel from downtown to Liberty in the morning, and return from Liberty to downtown in the afternoon rush hour.

Transit is being introduced in the New Mark and Gashland areas of the Northland. The 37X-North Broadway Express travels between downtown and Metro North Mall. The route is extending north to include these neighborhoods.

These improvements are the result of a comprehensive, multi-year effort by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to better match transit demand throughout the city of Kansas City, Mo.
