Northwest Driver Celebrates 25 years with OATS, Inc.

(St. Joseph, Missouri, March 20, 2012) – Rebecca Scheib, known by most as Becky, began her career as an employee for OATS 25 years ago. Before OATS, Rebecca had been driving for the RSVP Program of Grundy County, which is a program that provides opportunities for people 55 and older to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. OATS took over the RSVP bus in an effort to help keep it running, and Becky soon found herself driving a bus for OATS.

She relied on this position when she first started to help support and raise her daughter. Now that her daughter is grown, she still enjoys everything she does to help keep those who are transportation disadvantaged, independent. “I love people,” she says. “I love being around people and helping people.” Becky understands the important impact she makes on peoples’ lives daily. “Being there when nobody else is for someone,” is what her job entails, she says.

Throughout the years of driving for OATS, Becky has not only found it financially rewarding, but has also seen the impact little things have had on her personally. Her position involves an array of other responsibilities besides simply driving the bus. “I’ve tied a lot of shoes, put on a lot of coats, carried in lots of groceries, got lots of hugs and met a bunch of wonderful people,” she says.

Becky thinks some of the most important qualities for an OATS employee to exude are patience and respect. She has enjoyed working with each of her bosses at OATS, and they have been very fond of her as well. Northwest Regional Director, Beth Langley says, “I have enjoyed working with Becky over the years. She takes pride in getting her riders safely to their destinations and is always ready to pitch in and help get people where they need to go.” Becky has helped with the implementation of the new MDC system in Trenton, Mo. She is also working on educating her riders for the future. “She is a great addition to the Northwest Region,” says Beth.
