For many cities, the answer would be a resounding "no"! Too many people like their cars, and the feeling of independence those cars give them. But for a select group of cities, a combination of good public transportation, bicycle lanes, good urban planning, and other factors have contributed to cities such as San Francisco, Portland, OR, Seattle, and others being given the coveted label "green" by several prominent groups.
So the next time you travel to one of these cities, don't bother with the rental car, and enjoy the great public transportation–oh, and pass the word along to your friends!
