DESCRIPTION:The transit advocacy organization Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) in partnership with the Missouri Public Transit Association (MPTA) has announced plans for its next virtual “Talking Transit” event\, which is set for Thursday\, October 27\, at 8:30 a.m. via ZOOM. This event will highlight the state of transit in Missouri following a historic win at the Missouri State Legislature this year that increased state funding for the first time in two-decades. Pre-registration is required and can be completed online by following the link here. \nOn the heels of securing $8.7 million in transit funding from the state that is being split amongst the 34 transit providers operating in Missouri\, those in attendance will learn about the latest plans for the two largest urban and the largest rural transit provider. DESCRIPTION:Missouri Public Transit Association is offering a special one-day training on Recruiting\, Hiring\, Building\, Developing and Retaining a Sustainable Driver Workforce in partnership with the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) on October 29\, 2019 in Jefferson City\, MO at MoDOT Central Offices\, 1511 Missouri Blvd.\, Parish Room\, Jefferson City\, MO. \nTransit driver recruitment and retention is top of mind for Missouri transit providers as well as providers from the surrounding states who will be invited to attend this event.   Drivers are the front-line representatives for any agency. So what can transit leaders do to address the current driver shortage? Organizational awareness\, executive support\, and understanding effective employee relations are critical factors impacting service and are key in any effort to address driver shortages. Very few decisions a supervisor makes has the importance of hiring an individual\, particularly in the critical customer service position as a driver. \nThe effort and attention that’s put into all aspects of employee retention has a direct correlation on the need for driver recruitment.
